Happy New Year!
On Facebook, I’ve seen a lot of postings about how rotten 2016 has been. I told my 12 year old that 2016 has had its share of challenges just like any other year. I guess it’s about perspective, it’s about the individual. Some things have happened in our nation and around the world that have been just awful (to put it lightly) and makes you mad, or sad. For me, 2016 has been a year of growth. I am SO thankful for the growth, for clarity and revelation.
I started 2016 trying to recover from a hard drive crash that took a lot of images from me/from my clients. When I say a lot, I mean…A LOT! So I spent the end of 2015 and quite a bit of 2016 re-shooting the sessions I could and honoring free sessions as a way to make it up. I’ve learned that not everyone honors their word like you honor yours. I learned that making a determined effort not to shoot sessions in December brings clarity and peace that was amazing! I’ve been shooting since 2008 and many times worked right through Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was getting burned out and needed that break. I am so thankful that I did. Even though I am still finishing up a wedding and a senior session, I have more clarity.
I’ve decided on a few things for 2017. I am no longer going to do “newborn” sessions as I’ve done them before. I will do newborn, but I will no longer bring the normal things that I’ve brought in the past. Instead I will focus on the family dynamics of the newborn session. I don’t have a studio space and fighting adequate lighting in peoples homes can be hard. I love holding your new babies, so if you are looking for a more laid back session capturing the essence of your new little person, let me know.
Another change for 2017 is availability. As of right now, I will open two weekends a month for sessions. This may change, but I really want to stick to my guns on this as it will allow for quicker turn around time on images. My time frame has always been 4 -6 weeks for normal sessions and 6-8 for weddings. When I pile sessions on top of each other AND try to work my 5 day a week job, quick turn around time is NOT happening. I will announce on Facebook my availability.
I’m also wanting to focus more on the creative side of photography. I’ve been sharing images that I’ve taken and have put up for sale on my website. You can find them here: Prints for sale I’ve always loved art and shooting for me is a good outlet. I also have some ideas rolling around for sessions with couples. This is what I’ll be sharing with you at the end of this month. I’m not opposed to the traditional family sessions, engagement sessions. I photograph some really awesome families. I have a desire to get my couples to reconnect…..well, you will just have to see what I mean when I post photos.
Well, that’s about it for now. I will write more soon!
